Sunflower Balloon Festival!

  • May 15, 2017

From a distance, you almost begin to believe there are UFOs hovering over the Anthony, Kansas, airport. However, coming closer and closer, you soon realize that it's just a gigantic hump back whale and his colorful friends taking flight at the Sunflower Balloon Festival.        I first heard about this event two years ago. Ever since, I wanted to take my boys and experience this larger than life, fun filled afternoon. We were really amazed with the color and the detail on the squid. It's long flowing tentacles swirled about 13-feet behind it's large rainbow colored head.   We...

Ready or not; Kentucky, here I come. Even though I am nervous! Competing against other photographers on a national level is a bit intimidating. That grateful feeling

  • April 13, 2017

This past week has definitely been a busy, yet delightful week. My heart is full. From my birthday, to a journalism conference, everything seemed to zip by.  April 10th I was honored with the title of Journalist of the Year from the Kansas Collegiate Media conference. The Hutchinson Collegian brought home a gold medal! whoo hoo!! Congrats to all my classmates, we've definitely worked hard this year! Working together...

Thank goodness for beautiful weather…

  • April 8, 2017

I think this is my favorite time of year. The air smells sweet, and there is an excited atmosphere almost any where you go. I ventured into Dillon Nature Center on a late Monday evening, and walked the wooded paths with my camera. From the birds, to the butterflies, even a tiny mole rustling through the leaves of last fall— everything was scurrying about and seemed to be joyful that winter has gone. This is a shot of Dillon Nature Center's pond. The reflection on the water makes for a magnificent sky shot. It reminds me of a Bob Ross painting... :) The happy little trees are budding...

Signs of Spring

  • April 2, 2017

I won't beat around the bush — at my house, we've been a little bummed that the whole week of spring break 2017,  has been grey and rainy. Although this does make great diffused light for photography, for me, it's hard to get inspired when there's no sunshine. After all, we've been taught that April is the rainy month ever since preschool. Well, despite the rain, I have taken my camera outside this week for a morning camera and coffee session. Still trying to capture the brilliant red fellow (the male cardinal) I was able to spy the female in my crab apple tree. Can you see her? Here's...

Starting a new!

  • March 31, 2017

Well, here goes nothing. This is my first blog post on my photography website! This morning as I grabbed for my coffee, I heard the cardinals calling. Once a week I try to schedule, what I like to call a "Morning Coffee and Camera Session." I take my gear out to my patio, which is nestled in the heart of down town Hutchinson, Kansas. Although there is quiet a bit of traffic on my end of town, we've tried to build an oasis in our backyard for wildlife, and children! (Two of my favorite things!) The calling cardinal brings a welcome break from the sirens and rush of traffic. I quickly switched...
